Biography

Chef Jeff has more than 30 years of food and management experience. A few months after graduating from culinary school, Chef Jeff opened his first food business, an 80-seat restaurant that he owned, operated and built from scratch. This business was the launch pad for other endeavors, including a successful wholesale bakery that Chef Jeff also built, owned and operated for 9 years. His former private clients include Bill Clinton, Mikhail Gorbachev, Henry Kissinger and George Steinbrenner, and his corporate clients have included Madison Square Garden, Neiman-Marcus, Smith Barney and the United Nations.

He's also managed and worked in the kitchens of restaurants and a private club, became the executive pastry chef of a retail bakery with multiple stores and a wholesale division, and furthered his culinary skills with advanced courses in France and Switzerland.

Along with writing curriculum and developing programs for culinary schools, Chef Jeff’s 20 years of experience teaching led him to his position as Pastry & Baking Arts lead chef at the Institute of Culinary Education, where he manages a team of chef-instructors, teaches students, and helps advise students and alumni in their careers and food businesses.

To guide graduates navigating the many challenges of starting food businesses, Chef Jeff became a founding partner of Food Startup Help, assisting companies with all aspects of the food industry ranging from food product inception through manufacturing and many other essential services. Chef Jeff and his partners are co-authoring a book on how to bring food products to market.

Chef Jeff also volunteers as a subject matter expert (SME) for SCORE to help those starting businesses in the food field.​

"I try to help my students by demystifying the concepts we work on so they can increase their level of understanding, and give them the confidence they need that will allow them to use their own creativity once they have been able to master the fundamentals," Chef Jeff says of teaching Pastry & Baking Arts at ICE.
