Biography

Jonathan Waitman grew up in New York and then attended Boston University, where he received his B.A. in Psychology. He then attended the Mount Sinai School of Medicine where he received his MD and completed a three-year residency in Internal Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx. He became the chief medical resident in the department of internal medicine from 2001 to 2002. Following completion of his training in internal medicine, he went to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to complete a fellowship in clinical nutrition.

Dr. Jonathan now works in the Comprehensive Weight Control Program at New York Weill Cornell Medical Center with Dr. Louis Aronne. He is the course director for the nutrition curriculum at Weill Cornell Medical College and the medical director for Specialized Nutrition Support New York Presbyterian Hospital, Weill-Cornell Medical Center.

Dr. Jonathan has co-authored numerous articles on the subject of obesity. He has been interviewed by The New York Times, FOX 5 New York, CNN, Headline news, CBS News and the Today show. He joined the Institute of Culinary Education in 2020 as a medical expert actively advocating for food as medicine in the classroom and his practice.
