Vinhos Verdes Masterclass With Sommelier Max Goldberg

Discover Portugal’s most refreshing and versatile wine region through an engaging, hands-on session led by Max Goldberg, Beverage Director at The Peninsula Beverly Hills. Students will explore the history, terroir, and native grape varieties of the Vinhos Verdes Demarcated Region, tasting a curated selection that ranges from youthful, aromatic whites to structured, complex styles with aging potential. Participants will learn how Vinhos Verdes’ hallmark freshness, vibrant acidity, and diverse textures make them ideal for pairing—from delicate seafood and fresh salads to bold, spicy dishes. The session will also highlight the wines’ versatility across different culinary traditions, equipping future chefs with inspiration for creative and memorable pairings.

About Max Goldberg:

Max Goldberg embarked on his Food & Beverage journey at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. While there, his fascination with wine blossomed, leading him to a semester in The Napa Valley at the CIA’s Greystone campus. Post-graduation, Max enhanced his skills in San Francisco at Restaurant Gary Danko under the tutelage of Master Sommeliers like Vinny Morrow, Chris Gaither, and Jeremiah Morehouse. Upon his return to Los Angeles, Max entered the hotel industry at The Waldorf Astoria, taking position as a sommelier for the Jean-Georges Restaurant. Max further distinguished himself as the Head Sommelier for the Maybourne Hotel before assuming the role of Beverage Director at the Peninsula Beverly Hills. Max now works as a Sommelier at Seline Restaurant in Santa Monica.
