About Chef Bret Thompson:

Chef Bret Thompson's culinary journey is a testament to his passion and dedication to the art of cooking. He began his professional path at the prestigious California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, where he developed a solid foundation in culinary techniques. His skills flourished at renowned establishments, including Aqua in San Francisco, Roy's in Hawaii, and Pinot Blanc in St. Helena, California.

Seeking to broaden his culinary horizons, Chef Bret traveled to Spain, where he had the privilege of studying under Michelin-starred Chef Martin Berasategui at his acclaimed restaurant in Lasarte. His quest for knowledge continued in Beirut, Lebanon, where he partnered in a restaurant venture at Atlas Café. He further honed his craft under the tutelage of culinary legend Chef Bernard Loiseau at La Côte d'Or, a Michelin 3-star restaurant in Saulieu, France, and at L’Arpège, Chef Alain Passard’s Michelin 3-star establishment in Paris.

Throughout his illustrious career, Bret spent significant time with The Patina Group, where he held various roles, including Corporate Executive Chef. His leadership at Catal Restaurant in Anaheim earned him the "Chef of the Year 2002" accolade from the Orange County Business Journal. After co-founding the iconic MILK Ice Cream Parlor & Bakeshop in Los Angeles, he launched his own Market Restaurant and Catering, which he successfully sold in 2014.

In 2015, Chef Bret joined forces with his wife, Lucy Thompson-Ramirez, to create a culinary haven at Pez Cantina. Lucy brings a unique perspective to their partnership, having migrated from Guanajuato, Mexico, at a young age. With a degree in Sociology and a minor in Spanish from the University of Santa Barbara, she initially thrived in the fashion industry, establishing her own showroom before seamlessly transitioning into hospitality.

At Pez Cantina, Lucy's warm demeanor and personal touch create a welcoming atmosphere. She greets regulars by name and fosters connections, making the restaurant feel like an extension of their family. In 2023, her contributions to the industry were recognized when she was appointed President of the Latino Restaurant Association and joined the Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board.

Outside their professional achievements, Bret and Lucy are devoted parents to their two boys, cherishing family time and supporting their children's activities. Together, they continue to innovate, focusing on a modern coastal dining experience that enriches Pasadena’s culinary landscape.
