ICE hosted the biannual Career Fair yesterday afternoon.
A part of ICE’s Career Services, the event was a chance for all ICE students and alumni to speak to businesses and potential employers about part- or full-time opportunities, or simply network and talk to some of the industry’s most notable professionals. In attendance were hot and upcoming restaurants and business such as Eataly, Whole Foods, Shake Shack, Union Square Hospitality Group, Blue Hill, B.R. Guest Restaurants, The Dinex Group, The Spotted Pig and The Breslin. The businesses in attendance gave students looking to break into the industry lots of advice, emphasizing the importance of professionalism and passion in the industry.
Corporate executive chef of Dos Caminos, Scott Linquist said, “I would hire somebody with heart over somebody with experience any day of the week. Experience is good, but I would rather have an employee that really is driven and has the desire to be great and to be successful in their career.” The Career Fair was also a chance for successful alumni to come back and recruit new employees from the next generation of ICE students. Among the alumni in attendance were Ivy Stark (executive chef, Dos Caminos), Rick Horiike (sous chef, Morimoto), Carla Bonica (creative manager, The Dinex Group) and Alexandra Valdes-Fauli (general manager, Shake Shack).
