Roasted Orange Negroni Sbagliato

An Update on the Iconic Italian Cocktail

Tim Wright

This recipe is inspired by Negroni Week imbibing — the collective effort by bars across the globe to raise money for charitable causes, not to mention a celebration of one of our favorite summer cocktails. Cheers!

Though Negroni Week ends on June 10, the official season of the Negroni is just firing up. So we asked cocktail guru Joe Campanale, owner/director of Fausto in Brooklyn, to share with us his take on the classic Negroni.

Recipe

Roasted Orange Negroni Sbagliato

Yields 1 serving

Ingredients

  • 1 wedge roasted orange
  • 1 ounce sweet red vermouth
  • 1 1/4 ounces Campari
  • 1 1/4 ounces Lini Lambrusco Bianco, or other sparkling white wine
  • Orange peel for garnish

Directions

  1. Place the orange in a mixing glass and add vermouth.
  2. Muddle the two so that the charred bits are released into the vermouth.
  3. Add Campari and ice, and stir.
  4. Strain into a chilled rocks glass that is filled with ice and top with sparkling wine. Do not stir as this will dissipate the bubbles.
  5. Garnish with orange peel.
