Assistant Director of Career Services (Full-time)

Position Summary

Reporting to the National Director of Career and Student Services is responsible for operations within the Office of Career Services, including career planning and development opportunities, individual counseling, externship planning and development.

The Assistant Director of Career Services is also responsible for guiding the collection and analysis of data on a wide range of institutional activities for internal and external constituents and producing required periodic reports and special studies.

The Assistant Director of Career Services partners closely with the National Director of Career Services to support the strategic direction, daily operations, and performance outcomes of the department across campus(es). This role provides leadership to the Career Services team while also maintaining direct responsibility for a designated cohort of students, ensuring high-quality advising, externship placement, and employment outcomes. The Assistant Director plays a critical role in driving student success, employer engagement, and compliance with institutional and accrediting standards.

Job Responsibilities

Department Operations & Leadership

• Partner with the National Director of Career Services to execute departmental strategy, initiatives, and performance goals 
• Support oversight of daily operations across campus(es), ensuring consistency in service delivery 
• Supervise, train, and coach Career Services Advisors, including performance management and development
• Lead team meetings, case reviews, and at-risk student discussions 
• Serve as escalation point for complex student, employer, or externship issues 
• Step in for the National Director as needed for coverage and decision-making

Student Career Development (Cohort Management)

• Manage a designated cohort of students from program progression through graduation and employment
• Provide individualized advising on career pathways, job search strategies, resume development, and interview preparation 
• Deliver and/or oversee career readiness workshops and classroom presentations 
• Monitor student engagement and proactively intervene with at-risk or non-responsive students 
• Track and support student progress toward externship placement and employment outcomes 
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all student interactions and outcomes

Externship Program Oversight

• Ensure students within assigned cohort are placed in qualified externship sites aligned with program requirements 
• Review and approve externship site documentation and agreements 
• Monitor externship progress, evaluations, and completion of required hours 
• Address and resolve externship-related issues between students and employer partners

Employer Relations & Partnerships

• Build and maintain relationships with local and national employers 
• Develop new externship and employment opportunities aligned with student goals and program outcomes
• Coordinate employer outreach, site visits, and recruitment events 
• Ensure employer expectations align with student skill levels and program standards

Compliance & Reporting

• Ensure adherence to accrediting body standards and institutional policies related to placement and externships 
• Maintain accurate student records, externship documentation, and employment verification 
• Assist with audit preparation and response (ACCSC, state, federal) 
• Ensure timely and accurate reporting of student outcomes

Data & Performance Management

• Monitor KPIs including placement rates, externship completion, and student engagement 
• Track outcomes for assigned cohort and overall team performance 
• Generate reports and identify trends to support continuous improvement initiatives 
• Partner with the National Director to implement strategies to improve retention, engagement, and placement outcomes 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Bachelor’s degree required
• 3+ years of experience in career services, student services, or related field
• Experience in leadership, team management, and program oversight
• Knowledge of accreditation standards and reporting requirements
• Strong understanding of culinary and hospitality industries

PAY RANGE: $34.62 - $40.38 (based on experience)

The position is full-time and requires flexibility to work evening and weekend shifts, according to department rotation, which is set in advance.
