Ed McFarland grew up in a family of food lovers in New York City, attended culinary school and worked under chefs Sottha Kuhn at Le Cirque and Dave Pasternack at Terrance Brennan's Picholine. Drawn to seafood, he worked as the sous chef at Pearl Oyster Bar for more than six years, when he learned about New England cuisine.

In 2007, he opened Ed's Lobster Bar in Soho, where he uses fresh produce and high-quality seafood. In 2019, the restaurant expanded with an outpost in Sag Harbor, and the chef debuted "Ed's Eats," a cooking show on YouTube and IGTV. Ed's appeared on "Beat Bobby Flay," "TODAY Show," "Martha Stewart Show" and "Fox and Friends."
