FAQs for ICE Students
What time do I need to arrive that day?
Students must arrive at 8:30am.
What should I wear?
Culinary and Pastry Students: Chef Jacket and black pants.
Management Students: Casual Business Attire (no baseball caps, leggings, jeans or anything that is torn or has holes in it).
Will I get a formal invitation?
Yes, the electronic invites will go out about a month before the event.
Can I invite friends/family?
You will have two (2) tickets to give to your friends or family.
What if I need extra tickets?
Once all the RSVPs are in, we will be able to offer leftover tickets on a first-come, first-serve basis.
How long will the ceremony be?
Plan for approximately three (3) hours.
Will I get my diploma/certificate on stage?
You will recieve a diploma holder; the diploma will come in the mail after you complete all program requirements.
I won an award at the end of class, will I be recognized?
Yes! You will receive a medal and be recognized at the ceremony.

Will there be a keynote speaker?
Yes. A prominent industry professional will be your keynote speaker; we will anounce this person closer to graduation.
2017 Commencement Ceremony
On Tuesday, May 9, 2017 — for the very first time — ICE held a momentous commencement ceremony at NYU's Skirball Center to celebrate the graduation of ICE career students who completed their programs in the first half of 2017. ICE President Rick Smilow welcomed 600 proud parents, family and friends to share in the accomplishments of the ICE graduates in attendance. Rick noted the diversity of the students, who represented ICE’s career programs — Culinary Arts, Pastry & Baking Arts, and Restaurant & Culinary Management — as well as diverse ages, nationalities, educational backgrounds, career aspirations and more.
After months of dedicated work and challenging themselves on a daily basis, the mood of the graduates was nothing less than ecstatic — the excitement in Skirball Center was palpable. Still, the room quieted to a hush as guests listened to a keynote address from acclaimed Chef Michael Anthony of Gramercy Tavern and words of inspiration from Chef Mario Batali. The crowd also had the chance to soak in reflections from alumnus Jonathan Defren (Culinary ‘08/Management ‘08/Hospitality ’11), who holds the royal trifecta of diplomas — Culinary Arts, Restaurant & Culinary Management and Hospitality Management, and has paved a dynamic career path in the hospitality industry.
