Tim Ma is the chef/owner of Maple Ave Restaurant, Water & Wall, Gather + Feast, Chase the Submarine and Freehand.

Former Engineer Tim Ma attended The French Culinary Institute in 2008 then returned to his native Virginia to open Maple Avenue Restaurant with his wife, Joey Hernandez-Ma, in 2009. The couple has since opened Water & Wall in 2013, which won an OpenTable Diners Choice Award as well as one of Northern Virginia Magazine’s Best Restaurants for 2014. They also operate the supper club/catering service Gather + Feast and plan to open a sandwich shop called Chase the Submarine, named for their son. Tim plans to open his first DC restaurant Freehand, which will serve French-Asian bistro food.
Tim Ma graduated from the International Culinary Center (ICC), founded as The French Culinary Institute (FCI). In 2020, ICE and ICC came together on one strong and dynamic national platform at ICE's campuses in New York City and Los Angeles.
