Alumni Spotlight: Matt Monahan

Matt Monahan is the CEO, Co-Founder & Co-Owner of Other Half Brewing Company, headquartered in Brooklyn, NY. Matt holds a BA in English Literature from Bucknell University and is a graduate of Seibel Institute Craft Distilling and Operations Technology. In 2007, after graduating from the International Culinary Center’s Classic Culinary Arts program, Matt began his career in the kitchen working for such restaurants as Chef Juan Cuevas and Ed Brown’s Restaurant 81—he was part of the opening team that earned the restaurant its first Michelin star in 2008. After years of cooking in restaurants, Matt—an avid home brewer at the time—was ready to leave the kitchen behind to pursue something new. That’s when he teamed up with friend and fellow chef Andrew Burman, and brewmaster Sam Richardson to open Other Half Brewing in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn in 2014. Today, the brewery has two locations and plans to open a third in Williamsburg’s Domino development in 2020.
