BlueStar: The Official Range of ICE's School of Recreational Cooking
In addition to ICE’s dynamic roster of students pursuing a professional future in food and hospitality, we’re also the proud home of one of the nation’s largest and most diverse centers for hands-on recreational cooking classes and special events. Each year, more than 25,000 cooks tie on an apron in our classrooms, while an additional 20,000 guests join us for cooking events hosted by food trade organizations, New York City’s leading corporations and more.
To serve the curiosity and passion of this growing community of food enthusiasts, ICE needed a partner who would embody both the professional standards of our kitchens and our creative spirit. That’s why we’ve partnered with BlueStar—the leading manufacturer of restaurant quality ranges for the home—as the official cooking range of ICE’s School of Recreational Cooking.
In 1880, Prizer-Painter Stove Works, Inc. (the manufacturer of BlueStar cooking equipment) began manufacturing a full line of residential and commercial coal ovens in Reading, Pennsylvania. For more than 100 years, their handcrafted ranges were sold under the Prizer label, as well as many of the other popular brands of the day. In 2002, the company saw an opportunity to combine restaurant quality performance with the style and design needs of the commercial market, giving birth to the BlueStar brand. Unmatched in power, performance and customization—with unique features like open burners with up to 25,000 BTUs of power and extra-large convection ovens that fit commercial sized sheet pans—BlueStar is the home cooking equipment of choice for such James Beard Award-winning chefs as The Chew’s Michael Symon and ICE alum Allison Vines-Rushing.
Beyond the high quality restaurant performance BlueStar brings to ICE kitchens, our partnership is founded on shared company values of creativity and innovation. At ICE, we motivate each student to find their unique “culinary voice,” while BlueStar offers thousands of customizable color and design choices—from 750 different colors and finishes to knobs, trims and various styles of doors. Moreover, just as ICE instructors adapt to serve the individual needs of every student, every range crafted at BlueStar’s Pennsylvania factory is uniquely manufactured to fit the style and cooking preferences of each customer.
This dedication to personalized service has served BlueStar well, earning accolades in Country Living, Food & Wine, Food Network magazine, Interior Design and Architectural Digest, among others. For ICE’s diverse community of avid home cooks and food enthusiasts, there is no better commercial range than BlueStar.
At ICE’s new facility in Lower Manhattan, BlueStar ranges outfit our waterfront special event and demonstration kitchen, as well as our recreational teaching kitchens. Over the course of a single year, these spaces host thousands of events—from hands-on cooking and press events with such corporations as IBM and the New York Jets, to demonstrations with leading chefs and culinary entrepreneurs, to photo and video shoots for media outlets, to thousands of hands-on cooking, baking and wine classes.
