Rafael Martinez

Rafael Martinez is a visiting instructor of principles of food and beverage for the School of Hospitality Management at the Institute of Culinary Education. He was born and raised in the Dominican Republic, where he received his B.S. in Hospitality Management from Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra. Rafael spent the early part of his career working for The Barceló hotels and resorts in various front office positions. His passion for Food and Beverage operations came while traveling and working in Belgium, Italy and France, were he peeled more potatoes and made more cappuccinos than he cares to remember.

Rafael decided to move to New York in the late 90’s, where he gained experience in the field working at the Roosevelt Hotel, The Millennium Broadway, The Rainbow Room and as a director of Food and Beverage for the Beekman Tower Hotel and The Courtyard by Marriott LaGuardia. He joined the ICE September 2013.

In addition to teaching, Rafael offers consulting services for local restaurants and is an avid cook. Currently, he is working for Real Mex Restaurants at Sinigual. He resides in New Jersey with his wife, America, their 4 children, Victor, Manuel, Leo and princess Camila, and their dog, Pinky.
